Sadio Mane set for Liverpool medical on Monday after fee agreed

Southampton Striker Sadio Mane will have a medical at Liverpool on Monday after the Reds agreed a £30 million fee for the Senegal international.

He is the fifth player in the past three seasons to swap St Mary’s for Anfield after Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne all made the same move to the northwest.

The 24-year-old would be Liverpool’s fourth new signing for the 2016-17 season, following deals for midfielder Marko Grujic, centre-back Joel Matip and goalkeeper Loris Karius.

A £30m fee would make Mane the club’s third most expensive signing, behind only Andy Carroll and current Reds striker Christian Benteke, a £32.5m arrival from Aston Villa last summer.

Mane has scored 21 Premier League goals in 67 games since signing for the Saints from Red Bull Salzburg two years ago.

Mane scored twice against Liverpool in March as Southampton fought back from 2-0 down to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory at St Mary’s Stadium.

If Mane does leave, he would become the second high-profile departure from Southampton this summer, following Victor Wanyama’s move to Tottenham.

Liverpool are still hoping to tie up deals for Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell and Poland midfielder Piotr Zielinski as part of their summer transfer spending.
