Nicolas Gaitan join Atletico Madrid from Benfica
Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Nicolas Gaitan from Benfica for €25 million.
Gaitan is currently with the Argentina national team at the Copa America in the United States and is set to complete the transfer upon his return.
The 28-year-old, linked with Manchester United, will join Atletico Madrid after the Copa America campaign with Argentina.
He spent six seasons with Benfica, making 253 appearances with 41 goals, having joined them from Argentine giants Boca Juniors in 2010.
Gaitan won three straight league titles with Benfica and was a Europa League runner-up twice.
Gaitan made 37 appearances this season as Benfica claimed a league and cup double for the third year in a row.

A statement on Atletico’s official website: “Atletico de Madrid and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Nicolas Gaitan to our club.
“The midfielder is currently playing the Copa America with Argentina, and will travel to Madrid after the tournament that is being held in the United States, to finish all the necessary formalities so he can join the red and white team.”
