Watford sign Roberto Pereyra and Younes Kaboul

Watford have completed the double signing of Juventus midfielder Roberto Pereyra and Sunderland’s Younes Kaboul.

Kaboul has joined from Sunderland on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee after asking for a move away from the north-east for personal reasons.

Kaboul played a key role in Sunderland’s survival battle last season, making 23 appearances after moving to Wearside from Tottenham for £3m in 2015.

He told the Watford website: “I’m very happy and delighted to be a part of Watford Football Club, and I’m looking forward to the season.

“Just from outside, I can see it’s a family club, there are some good players here and I’m very confident. The club had a very good season last year, and we need to carry that on to be even better.”

Kaboul made 140 appearances during two spells at Tottenham after leaving Auxerre in 2004, and was club captain at White Hart Lane two seasons ago.

He spent 18 months with Portsmouth in the Premier League, scoring five goals in 51 appearances.

The Hornets, who play Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, also announced the signing Juventus midfielder Roberto Pereyra after he successfully underwent a medical on Friday.

Argentina international Pereyra has signed a five-year contract and arrives from Juventus, subject to a work permit.

The fee for Pereyra has not yet been revealed. Before joining Juventus, initially on loan, in 2014, Pereyra played for Udinese, the Italian club owned by the Pozzo family, who also own Watford.

He has 10 full caps for Argentina and was part of their 2015 Copa America squad.

His transfer is subject to Watford obtaining a work permit for him.
