Wales Euro 2016 dream ended as Cristiano Ronaldo was superb to dump out the shock British semi-finalists.
Gareth Bale and Co were bidding to be the first British team in a final since England won the World Cup in 1966.
But their fairytale run to the last four in their first major championships since 1958 was wrecked in Lyon.
Real Madrid ace Ronaldo turned in a man of the match display with a fine header to open the scoring after the break before his assist for Nani to wrap up victory.
Bale said: “It’s very disappointing to be so close to the final but we have to be proud. This is a proud moment for us, we have achieved a lot. We had pride and passion.
“The fans are the best in the world, by far. We wish we could have done it for them.
“We’d like to thank all the fans at home and all the fans who traveled out and behaved themselves.”
Wales have demonstrated that they can more than handle themselves on the big stage, and turning to the future, Bale said: “We’ve had a taste of it now and we look forward to the future. We have confidence. We don’t want to turn up to one tournament, it’s about the bigger picture.”
