Vincent Janssen ‘frustrated’ as AZ Alkmaar turn down £15m Spurs bid

Dutch striker Vincent Janssen says he is frustrated with AZ Alkmaar for turning down a £15m bid from Tottenham for his transfer.

“The difference between the offer and the price we demand was too big,” AZ’s technical director Max Huiberts told the De Telegraaf newspaper.

The club want 20 million euros ($22.2 million) for the 22-year-old forward, who finished his first top-flight season as the highest scorer in the Dutch league, but Spurs had only offered 15 million, the newspaper said.

Janssen had visited London with his agent but had also been to VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga for discussions.

Speaking to reporters in the Netherlands following his first pre-season training session at AZ, Janssen says he has made up his mind about a move to White Hart Lane.

“I have expressed my choice at the club,” he said on Thursday.

“Tottenham Hotspur have made a high bid in my eyes. There has been an offer around €18m (£14.9m), but AZ will not even come to the table.

“I would like somewhere else as soon as possible to start my preparation. This is frustrating.

“I indicated that I would take the next step and want to get away from the club. They know [this] and are aware of [the situation].

“It’s a shame, I would have wished that it would go a little faster. Sure it’s fine to train again. AZ is a fantastic club, but I want to make that next step for my development.

“Ultimately I hope to shake people’s hands here and walk out of the door on good terms.”
