Sunderland sign Adnan Januzaj from Manchester United on season-long loan

Sunderland confirmed the signing of Manchester United forward Adnan Januzaj on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old links up again with former Reds boss David Moyes at the Stadium of Light and also Donald Love and Paddy McNair, who signed for the Black Cats earlier this week.

Januzaj, of course, scored twice on his full debut at Sunderland in October 2013, to earn the Reds a 2-1 triumph on Wearside during Moyes’ spell in charge at Old Trafford.

Januzaj earned rave reviews for his performances over the next few months and was rewarded with a five-year contract which runs out in the summer of 2018.

However, he failed to hold down a regular first-team spot and was loaned to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund for the first half of last season.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to Manchester City, Moyes, who raided United for fellow 21-year-olds Paddy McNair and David Love just 24 hours earlier, said: “Adnan will give us a different variation.

“I thought he was one of the finest young talents I have ever seen, and he was up there with Wayne Rooney at the age of 18.

“I have to get him back to the level he played at two years ago. He will get every opportunity to do the business and I’m hoping the Sunderland fans will see the real Adnan Januzaj.”

Sunderland have also signed Senegalese centre-back Papy Djilobodji from Chelsea and all four new recruits are in line to make their debuts at the Etihad this weekend.
