Sir Alex Ferguson Insists Sam Allardyce should be next England manager

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce should be the first choice for the vacant England manager position, according to Sky Sports.

The Scot suggests that the ex-Newcastle United and West Ham United boss is the obvious choice to replace Roy Hodgson after another dismal international tournament showing, should the FA look for a homegrown manager to lead the Three Lions into the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

However, Sir Alex believes that the FA should ensure they produce a wider search to ensure they find the right boss with the right attributes and skills.

“It’s very difficult to think of the right man and there are only three English managers in the Premier League. With Sam’s experience, he is the obvious choice” said Ferguson.

“But I think they have to search wider to make sure they get the right one. If it’s Sam, fine.

“But they have to have someone with the capabilities, the tactical awareness and the feel for the national side.

“Thank goodness I’m not making the choice because it’s a difficult one, but Sam’s the best English candidate because he’s in the Premier League.”

Ferguson has also called on the FA to review certain aspects of the English domestic game, including the introduction of a winter break, in order to compete with the likes of Germany on the international stage.

” In Germany they have a rest in December and January and teams who play in a better climate must be better prepared than English players.

“They don’t even get a month’s rest because they played three friendly games and they’re training from June 12. That needs to be addressed.”
