Rohit Chand signs contract with Persija Jakarta

Nepali national team midfielder Rohit Chand has signed a contract with Indonesian club Persija Jakarta on Friday for the second time.

Chand was associated with Persija Jakarta from 2013 to 2015 and he had played 46 games during the period for the club.

The contract is for one season effective from April 7, 2017 to January 7, 2018. However, the signing amount and the wages with the first-tier Indonesian club has not been disclosed.

Rohit, who was sidelined for eight months due to knee injury while playing with Malaysian T-Team Football Club last year, made a comeback from the 15th Aaha-Rara Gold Cup held in Pokhara from January 17 to 28.

Rohit had travelled to Indonesian capital on Tuesday to attend the trial with Persija. He had played full 90 minutes with the club in its friendly match against Indonesia U-22 a day later which ended in a goalless draw.

After the trial, Persija’s Brazilian head coach Stefano Cugurra decided to sign Rohit as his third foreign player for the new season.

Rohit has won 46 caps for the national team. He had made his debut at the age of 17 in 2010 during the AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers held in Kathmandu against Palestine. Before leaving for Indonesia, Rohit won Aaha-Rara Gold Cup and Jhapa Gold Cup with Manang Marsyangdi Club this season.

Persija Jakarta finished at the 14th position in the 2016 of the top tier league in Indonesia.
