New Road Team beats Nayabasti Youth Club 2-1 to top the League
New Road Team (NRT) beats Nayabasti Youth Club 2-1 in the seventh round match of Martyrs Memorial B Division League football tournament at Halchowk Stadium on Friday.
At the completion of the seventh round, NRT moved two points clear of the overnight leader Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT). Unbeaten teams, NRT has 17 points with five wins and two draws and RCT has 15 points with four wins and three draws.
Nayabasti Youth Club took the lead in the 20th minute after Ramesh Ghising scored for Jorpati based team. Rajkumar Ghising scored his first goal of the season for NRT to level the score in the 43rd minute. NRT got into the lead in the 63rd minute after Birendra Thapa scored with a header.
Nayabasti stands third from the bottom, 12th position in the standings with six points.
In the second match, Khumaltar Youth Club edged out Samajik by 3-2 in an exciting affair at Halchowk Stadium.
Bhuwan Basnet put Samajik on the lead in the 27th minute but Sabir Kumar Chaudhary leveled the scoring in the 36th minute. Samajik got back the lead as Bhuwan Basnet put his team on front with goal in the 49th minute. Khumaltar leveled the score again from the spot as Biren Tharu converted the penalty in the 60th minute. Sabir Kumar Chaudhary then scored the winning goal in the 81st minute.
With the win, Khumaltar has 10 points and is level on points with three other teams at the sixth position.
Meanwhile, Samajik is second from bottom with three points with just one win.
