Mark Clattenburg named as a referee of crunch Manchester derby
Mark Clattenburg will take charge for the crunch Manchester derby between Manchester United and Manchester City on Saturday.
He took charge of the FA Cup final, Champions League final and Euro 2016 final in last season.
His assistants will be Jake Collin and Steve Bennett while Mike Dean will act as fourth official at Old Trafford.
In April, at the end of the 2014-15 season at Old Trafford, when Manchester United beat Manchester City 4-2 and Clattenburg dished out three yellow cards – all to City players, as they committed 16 fouls to United’s nine.
In the most recent fixture between the two sides at Old Trafford, in October 2015, Clattenburg refereed a 0-0, handing two yellow cards to each team. On that occasion, United committing 17 fouls to City’s 13.
Before this year, Clattenburg’s last derby was the infamous 6-1 derby game at Old Trafford back in 2011.
Jonny Evans was sent off, while the referee also gave a further eight yellow cards, split between the two sides.
Clattenburg’s first derby between the two big rivals came in the 2007-08 season at the City of Manchester Stadium, when City ran out shock 1-0 winners courtesy of Geovanni.
