Devi Chaudhary sets national record in weightlifting
Nepal Police Club’s Devi Chaudhary set new national record in the weightlifting of 53kgs women category under the ongoing 7th National Games.
She broke the previous record registered in her name to set the new record by lifting 63 kg. The match was held late Sunday evening in Rajbiraj, the district headquarters of Rajbiraj.
Devi, who competed in women’s 53 kg category, lifted 60 kg in snatch and 78 kg in clean and jerk for total of 138 kg to better her own national record. Earlier she held record of 58 kg in snatch and 77 kg in clean and jerk.
Sangita Rai and Tika Maya Gurung of Western Region settled for silver and bronze medals.
Manisha Ranabhat of Army secured gold in women’s 48 kg lifting 50 kg in snatch and 55 kg in clean and jerk for total of 105 kg.
Manisha Chaudhary of Eastern Region and Kanchan Chaudhary of Far-western Region earned second and third place finish in the same weight category.
Manoj Yadav won the gold medal in 65 kg men’s category while Nepal Army’s Tulanath Mahato clinched the silver and Rabilal Chaudhary of Far-western Region secured bronze medals.
Bikash Thapa of Army secured top finish in 62 kg. He lifted 100 kg in snatch and 115 in jerk for total of 215 kg.
Jeevan Tamang of Army and Dhan Bahadur Jhakri of Western Region stood second and third respectively.
