Schalke sign Baba Rahman from Chelsea on season-long loan
Schalke have confirmed the signing of Chelsea defender Baba Rahman on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Augsburg in 2015, failed to secure a first-team place at Stamford Bridge last season, making 11 Premier League starts, and has now been allowed to return to the Bundesliga.
Schalke confirmed the Ghanaian’s signing in a statement on the club’s website on Tuesday.
Chelsea’s new manager Antonio Conte has allowed Rahman to leave on loan despite having only two senior full-backs left in his squad – Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic.

Schalke boss Markus Weinzierl, who worked with the player at Augsburg, told his club’s official website: “Abdul is a left-back with strong attacking abilities. I’m completely confident in his qualities. His mentality fits well into our team.”
Earlier in the year the Ghanaian spoke of his displeasure at a lack of playing time.
“Of course it is frustrating for any footballer to be forced to watch from the stands. I do not want to experience that any longer,” he said.
“You have to get used to the Premier League and a big club like Chelsea first when you are a young player like I am.”
Rahman follows Sevilla captain Coke and Switzerland striker Breel Embolo through the door at Schalke this summer.
