Unbeaten Khatri wins gold medal

Tribhuvan Army Club’s Phupu Lhamu Khatri remained unbeaten on her way to winning the women’s 63kg weight category gold medal in the seventh National Games in Dhulabari, Jhapa.

In the round-robin league contest, the 12th South Asian Games gold medallist Khatri won all the matches to finish first, while Nepal Police Club’s Nisha Chaudhary won silver and Far-western’s Shekha Shrestha and Dil Kumari Sinjali of Eastern Region bagged bronze.

Tribhuvan Army’s Rita Chaudhary and Manita Shrestha Pradhan won gold in the women’s 48 kg and 57 kg categories respectively while Akriti Joshi of same team bagged gold in 78 kg category.

Similarly, Sharada Khatri won gold in women’s 48 kg category for Mid-western Region. Central Region’s Sunita Magar and Samjhana Chaudhary won gold in women’s 70 kg event while Sharmila Tamang of the same team won gold in 57 kg category. Likewise, Sunita Bohara of Far-western Region clinched gold in women’s 78 kg weight category.

Nepal Police Club’s Tika Ram Chaudhary and Santosh Sunar won silver in the men’s 66 kg and 51 kg events respectively. Similarly, Army’s Sabod Mandal and Karma Tamang clinched second positions in the men’s 45 kg and 55 kg events respectively while Central Region’s Indra Bahadur Shrestha, Mohan Sunuwar and Kiran Kandel snatched silver medals in men’s 66kg, 51 kg and 55kg events respectively.

National Sports Council (NSC)’s Keshav Kumar Bista and former Youth and Sports Minister Purushottam Paudel distributed the medals for the winning players.
