Biraj Maharjan wins Dasharath Chand best player award

National football team skipper Biraj Maharjan received the Dasharath Chand Best Player Award-2072 at the National Sports Council on Friday.
Bira led the Nepali team to the title victory in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup in Bangladesh last year and skippered the side to the gold medal triumph in the 12th South Asian Games in India. The skipper of the national football team was rewarded with cash of Rs 15,001 and a letter of appreciation.
The award jointly presented by NSC and Dasharath Chand Memorial Trust also honored players from all five development regions. Biraj was honored as representative from Central Region.
Similarly, Phupu Lhamu Khatri (judo) of Eastern Region, Nima Gurung of taekwondo from Western Region, Nima Gharti Magar of wushu from Mid-western Region and Rajesh Chaudhary of wushu from Far-western Region were named the best players from their regions. All of them received Rs 10,001 each.
All four players are the medalist of the 12th South Asian Games held last year in India. Phupu and Nima Gharti Magar were the gold medalists while Nima and Rajesh were the silver medalists of SAG. Phupu’s mother received the prize on behalf of her daughter since she is currently undergoing training in Hungary for the Rio Olympics.
Minister for Youth and Sports Satya Narayan Mandal, Nepali Congress leader NP Saud, Trust President Karna Bahadur Chand among others distributed the prizes.
