5th South Asian Basketball Association : Bangladesh beat Nepal 73 -71
Bangladesh beat Nepal 73 – 71 in the second day of the 5th South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Zone Qualifying Round of the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016.
The teams were neck and neck in each of the first three quarters, and searching for a run to break away from their opponents.
Bangladesh led 18-16 in the first quarter but Nepal bounced back in the second to level the scores 29-29 at half-time.
Bangladesh held a narrow 50-49 advantage. In the last quarter, Bangladesh trailing 62-64 with two minutes left to play, were given a lifeline when Bangladesh forward Mithun Biswas hit back to back threes pointers help his team to take lead 68-64.
In the final few seconds, Bangladesh’s Tareq made a crucial defensive stop, got fouled and scored from the freethrow line to make it a four point game and make the final score 73 – 71.
Both teams had two players scoring 20 or more, for Nepal it was guard Sadish pradhan scored 26 and forward Ashim Shrestha contributed 22 points, while for Bangladesh, forwards Mithun Kumar Biswas and Md Ataur Rahman scored 22 points each.
India beat Maldives 96-40 in second day of South Asian Basketball Association tournament.
